Micro-Assignment 4, Identity and Sound

The place I choose is the Seven Eleven near my apartment Riverwatch Tower. I choose this place because I really go this place very often. For example, when I need to buy a hotdog for breakfast, when I need some water to make my dinner or when I need the batteries for my mouse, I will go to Seven Eleven! Why? Because it is close and convenience! The most important reason I chose this store is I will buy drinks almost every morning before I go to class. Usually, I will buy a bottle of Rain Lime flavor Gatorade for my afternoon class and a double gulp size cup of cherry flavor fruit juice for my class in the morning.

The sound of “beep” when I open the door of Seven Eleven is really unique for me. I think anytime I hear the beep sound like this; I can say there is a Seven Eleven store nearby. In this Seven Eleven store, I can hear a lot of different kind of sounds: the sound of open and close refrigerators, the sound of get ice from coke fountain, the sound from the check stand. All these sounds can make me think I am in a Seven Eleven store. Especially the conversation between the cashier and me which happen almost : “Do you need your receipt?” “No.” “Have a good day!” “You too.” Well, this cannot be more familiar to me. I am one hundred percent sure I am in Seven Eleven!

Blog 9: Response to Carver “Cathedral”

This article tells us a story about a blind man named Robert. Author’s wife was hired by him and used to read newspapers and books for Robert, and they became good friends. In this article, there is one part moved me deeply. The part talks about that when the author’s wife left Robert and married her ex-husband, the blind man Robert wants to touch the author’s wife’s face and try to remember her. I think the blind man Robert is really poor, can you imagine that if you want to remember a person, you have to try to touch every parts of the face, and you have no idea what the color is? That is so hard and poor.

After reading this article, I know more about the difference between disabled and normal people. Sometimes a disabled person may have to pay ten more times effort to get the same achievement to a normal person. We should respect the disabled and try our best to help them.

Blog 8: Response to Wallace “This is Water”

After reading this article, I think I know better how to thinking about things happened in my life. Sometimes you can never change a person’s mind even you could show him or her exact evidence. This is because we can never know his or her belief. Just like the example the author give, a person lost in the blizzard and get survived finally: if he is a person who believe in god, he could even believe in god more and think the god saved him; however if he is a person who does not believe in god, he would just think other person saved him but not the god. That is the difference, they have the different view about the world, and no one can change it.

I totally agree the author and in my opinion, we should not be angry to others just because they have the different ideas with you. We should stand in their view to think the questions and maybe try to find how the difference happens in the same question. This is a great way to make and keep more friends.

Blog 5: Wexner Review

Wexner center for the arts recently is exhibiting the artworks designed by Annie Leibovitz, who is a famous American portrait photographer. She took pictures on almost everything, including the great people and the beautiful landscape. I really love her landscape pictures. Among all of these pictures, I mostly love the picture of Niagara Falls which is taken in Ontario, Canada, in 2009. This is a really great picture, and I can feel the fall is full of power and grandeur. The fall is as far as the eye can reach in the picture. The rising water vapors show the powerful of fall. It is really an amazing landscape picture.

This picture of this Niagara Falls uses the perfect composition. Annie Leibovitz took this picture in a very special angle view. In the picture, the fall is curved and through the whole picture. This kind of composition of picture shows the large and powerful of the fall. I love this picture.

Micro Project 3: Identity and Objects (The things you carry with you)

1: Sennheiser HD598 headphone --- Music became a part of my life since long time ago. This is the best headphone I have ever used. That is the reason why I choose this headphone. I always use it when I walking to class. I bought this headphone two month ago and I was amazed by the sound of it. When I listen to music, it’s just like the singer is singing songs near my ear and only for me and I can feel what the singer feels. I love this kind of feeling!

2: IPhone 4 --- It’s the best cell phone I have ever used and I almost never let it leave my pocket. That’s why I choose it. IPhone 4 makes my life easy. I usually use it to check my email, surf the internet and play games. This is really easy to use. Even a person who had never used a cell phone knows how to use it. I think IPhone 4 is important to my life.

3: Seiko watch --- This watch is my last year birthday present. My mother bought it in Hong Kong. A watch is always important for me. I wear it every day. It tells me when I have to go to class and when I should go for lunch. This watch has the extremely accurate movement. It never varies more than a second in a month!

4: Sony Mp3 S544 --- A good headphone needs a good Mp3 player to produce the good sound. There are over 700 songs inside this Mp3 player. Half of these are Chinese traditional music---my favorite kind of music. These songs could make me calm down at any time. The most of the rest half songs are pop songs. When I listen to these songs, I am enjoying my life. I feel I am swimming in the sea made by the music when I listen to songs by HD598 and this Mp3.

5: My purse --- I put my cash, chase debit card and my buck ID in my purse, so I have to carry it every day. I bought my purse in Hong Kong last year. I love this purse because it is not like some other purse. My purse has a zipper to close and this is really useful! I will never lose a coin by using this purse!

6: Calculator TI-84 --- I am a traditional math student, and of course, no one can deny the truth that a good calculator could be consider one of the important tools for a student like me. Why I choose TI-84? Well, because this is the best calculator that we can use during the math quiz and exams. I have to take it every day at least this whole semester because I have math classes every day!

7: My keys --- There are six objects on my key rings. Three of them are keys: the grey one is an electric key, it opens the front door of my apartment building---riverwatch tower; the other two are normal keys, the small one is the mail box key and the big one is the key of my door. Two cards show the two supermarkets I usually go: CVS and Kroger. The purple one is a little torch. I use it to find little objects in dark. It’s really a useful small object.

My Sony S544 MP3 and my great headphone HD598 shows I am a person who loves music very much. Music became a part of my life since I was very young. I love enjoying my life, and listening music makes me have this kind of feeling. I would like to use a watch that can show me the accurate time. I hate to be late and I prefer to finish everything that long time before it is due. IPhone 4 is my favorite cell phone because it is easy to use, I love the great technology to make my life easier. I love reading IT news about cell phones, computers, the newest CPU and so on. I am a math major student, and I have to carry my TI-84 calculator every day. On my key rings, I have two supermarket cards, that shows the two supermarkets that I often go. These two supermarkets are not far away from my apartment, that's why I choose them.  Just like the reason I choose IPhone, I prefer the life become easier.
